CATC, CUMBRIA COUNTY ASSOCIATION TRADES COUNCIL

Saturday 26th January, due to the weather as with last years meeting at Workington, delegates travelled by train to Whitehaven for our CATC.

The meeting was well attended given the state of the roads.

Issues raised were the impact of welfare reform with the efforts of local CAB to assist being raised at the previous meeting. With being local Cllrs some of us were aware and in possession of papers relating to Cumbrian issues re reform and the summaries relating to the districts. This would be forwarded on to those delegates not in possession of these papers.

Motions for Conference, a Copeland delegate would be attending the London Trades Council conference with a motion on the "living wage".This would be taken to the NTUC Conference in Newcastle by the Allerdale delegate. The Barrow delegate would second the motion, his own being on  "support for our communities".

Health issues were also debated including the FGH Maternity unit with support for Parkinsons and MS.

Time being limited we were driven back to the station to catch the return train to Barrow.
