Northern TUC Education, Learning & Skills Forum, Thursday 27th September 2012
10:15 Forum meeting
13:15 Union Learning Reps Self-Organised Network
I would like to invite you to the next meeting of the Education, Learning and Skills Forum, which takes place on Thursday 27th September 2012 at the Great North Museum: Hancock, Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4PT.
The meeting will start at 10.15am and finish no later than 3.00pm. In a change to previous Forums the forum will take place in the morning with the Union Learning Reps meeting taking place after lunch. This will give ULRs the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues in an informal manner. It was decided at a previous forum that at each meeting, ULRs would volunteer to be Chair or note taker of that part of the forum.
This ELSF will focus on the key changes to English and Maths qualifications and the introduction of functional skills. In addition to this we will hear an update about the GO ON campaign and the important role union representatives can play in becoming Digital Champions and supporting others to get on line. Keynote speakers include Sue O'Hara, Skills Funding Agency and Joe Fearnehough, unionlearn National Strategic Union Development Officer.
As spaces for this event are limited, please could you indicate whether you would like to attend the Forum by Friday 14th September 2012, using the enclosed faxback form.
Whilst unions have made considerable progress across the whole of the region in recent years, supported by unionlearn and the Northern TUC, there remain many challenges ahead and much work to be done. By coming together in a regular Education Learning and Skills Forum, ULRs and other stakeholders are able to share experiences with each other, as well as find out about emerging learning and skills policy and new initiatives. It is important that we continue this development and that our region continues to benefit from local, regional and national learning opportunities as they become available.
